Tuusula, it is!
I am not quite sure, will I ever use this section or not – we will see. First of all, I shall decide in which language I should write. Finnish does make sense, however, most of my friends abroad, will not be able to follow. On the other hand, the professional stuff will be, more or less, interesting only to local people, hence perhaps in Finnish?
After living for many years in a remote town dealing with the garden and our ever competing neighbours, we wanted to take a break and settle down in the center of the city when we moved to Helsinki. For eight years, it was fine, and we really loved living in Katajanokka, a few hundreds meters away from the Kauppatori and the President’s palace. However, as years passed by, we started to feel like moving back to the country side again. After searching for a while and visiting some 80 properties on sale with their private gardens, we came across with this wonderful place named Tuusula.
A small village north to Helsinki and only 32 km away from my hospital, Tuusula was once home to Jean Sibelius and his wife Aino. The Lake Tuusula, by which then many of the famous Finnish artists in addition to Sibelius, like Juhani Aho, Pekka Halonen, Eero Järnefelt lived, is located only a km away from our house.
After a busy day at the hospital, I find peace and tranquility here. Living near to nature and having rabbits and our pets Nami (our dog) and Stella (our cat) running around, make us feel relaxed and happy. Occasionally, we miss the buzz of the urban life of the Stadi, but it is just a 30 min drive away.
